Existence 01/2015

Even though our organization changed its name to Anarchistic Federation, nothing changes as for publishing the anarchistic revue Existence. The main topic of the first issue 2015 is „commons“. It opens the question why it is important to anarchists to examine the issue of possession, especially collective possession, and how the analysis is supported by dealing with neoliberalism in the new enclosure aspect. The topic is thoroughly pursued in the article “Commons Against and Beyond Capitalism” by S. Federici a G. Caffentzis. It is followed by a text on reproduction as commons, based on the work of S. Federici, besides other things. We present a chapter from a new book by N. Johanisová Ecological Economy which concerns with commons and with criticism of the article “The Tragedy of the Commons” by G. Hardin. Two examples of battle for commons follow. The first one is the fight of Bolivians for sharing water sources, the second one the recent fight for an autonomous social centre in Prague’s part Žižkov.

The main topic is preceded by a review of activities of the anti-authoritarian movement in Bohemia, where besides anti-racist demonstrations, sympathy campaigns supporting the ripped off employees, or manifestations to support the fighting Kurds, the anti-capitalist protest in Prague 17th November is depicted in detail, as well as anarchistic activities related to the communal election.

This issue also deals with the social transformation in Syrian Kurdistan, students’ protest in Serbia, Mexico, Greece and England. We commemorate the anniversary of the murder of the Russian activists S. Markelov and A. Baburova and we bring the obituary of Spanish anarchist A. F. Borrás. Interesting glimpses into recent past are offered in the text on London’s “The Free and Independent Republic of Frestonia”, and the interview with Belarussian exile and activist Max Ščur that settled in the Czech Republic.

In the regular columns Anarchistic Federation informs about its activities, a new group from Pardubice “Food not Bombs” is introduced, also there is a reflection by the free community VAP and in the column of Anarchist Black Cross several people ponders the question what prisons are for. The texts of the latest three issues A3 wall newspapers focus on criminalizing of poverty, anniversary of the Velvet Revolution and the police role in protection of capital.
